How Gratitude Helped Me Combat Negative Thoughts

While relaxing at a family member's house, I was peacefully enjoying a sitcom (Bel-Air S3 E10) when BAM! – those familiar intrusive thoughts hit me: 'Why haven't you accomplished this yet? Why aren't you there yet?' They came out of nowhere, completely disturbing my peace. I couldn't even focus on the show anymore.

But then, I remembered the power of gratitude.

I started giving thanks for the things I already have:

  • Thank you for my mind
  • Thank you for my health
  • Thank you for my family and friends

By consciously practicing gratitude, I was able to push away those negative thoughts that were trying to lead me down a dark road. Soon enough, I was back to enjoying the show.

As we approach Thanksgiving, I'm grateful we have a dedicated day to gather with our loved ones and express thankfulness. However, gratitude shouldn't be limited to just one day – it should be a daily practice.

Consider this your gentle reminder: the next time that negative voice creeps in, try giving thanks. You might be surprised at how quickly your perspective can shift. 🙏✨

If you're looking to make gratitude a daily practice, check out our Treat YaSelf Journal, where you can combine daily reflection with self-care habits. Because true growth starts with appreciating where you are while working towards where you want to be. 🌱
